Sungai Long Specialist Hospital sponsors challenge trophies for Hulu Langat District Schools Sports Council

To support the nurturing of young sports talents amongst school students, Sungai Long Specialist Hospital is sponsoring 14 challenge trophies for the Hulu Langat District Schools Sports Council (MSSD Hulu Langat) for their interschool competitions. The trophies are for boys and girls under 12, under 15 and under 18 for football, netball, badminton and athletics.
There was a handover ceremony of the trophies by the Chief Executive Officer of Sungai Long Specialist Hospital, Mr Aw Tai Jak to the Hulu Langat District Education Officer Tuan Haji Arbain bin Pinni, Deputy Education District Officer (Students Development) Encik Syed Norzalman bin Syed Yusof, Assistant District Officer (Talent Development Unit) Encik Azhar bin Shafiei.
Member of Parliament Bangi, Yang Berhormat Syahredzan Johan and Kajang Local Councillor, Mr Raymond Kwan was on hand to witness the handover.
Mr Aw Tai Jak, thanked the Hulu Langat District Education Office for accepting Sungai Long Specialist Hospital’s offer to sponsor the challenge trophies as a way to encourage the students to participate in sports and to inculcate an active and healthy lifestyle from young. For those who excel in the respective sports, it is also a means to identify and nurture sporting talents for our state and national teams.
“As a community hospital, we want to give back to our local community. This is one such way. We want to encourage and instil a passion for sports among our youths. A good and healthy lifestyle is important and has many benefits,” said the CEO of Sungai Long Specialist Hospital after the handover of the trophies.
“Sports are linked with good health and it transcends the dimensions of a football field, badminton or netball court and athletics track. Participating in sports has profound and long term benefits in terms of physical and mental health. Being active in sports, not only improves health, it instils discipline, as well as teaches social skills. Whilst the bodies of the young flourish, their minds are also developed concurrently.”
Yang Berhormat Syahredzan Johan was happy to witness the event and said “that talent development among children and youth should be a shared responsibility between families, the school and the community. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child.”
“Everyone can play their part; not only the parents but also responsible corporate citizens in the community, to nurture the bodies and minds of our young. The trophies are not just a sign of victory but the experience of the competitions will have an everlasting impact on all who participate in the tournaments.
Sports not only develop the minds, it encourages team spirit and reduces the risk of youths getting into unhealthy activities.” Yang Berhormat Syahredzan thanked Sungai Long Specialist Hospital for the sponsorship and hoped that this will be perpetuated by others to enhance the public-private collaboration in sports.
Hulu Langat District Education Officer Tuan Haji Arbain bin Pinni stated he was very appreciative of Sungai Long Specialist Hospital's thoughtfulness in sponsoring the challenge trophies.
